Every year there is a huge photography convention in Vegas called WPPI. Thousands of photographers go to learn, shoot and have fun. After going in 2011 and participating in a shootout, I thought it would be fun to host my own. I knew I didn’t want to do it myself and I knew I wanted it to be completely styled. So, Abi Q Photography helped me get the ball rolling and Sugar and Fluff did all the design work. I think we made a pretty good team.
What I didn’t expect was such a talented group of photographers! I mean, I know there are a lot of talented photographers out there but usually shootouts attract those just starting out. Nope, not ours. We had some awesome photographers who have been shooting for quite awhile. I was blown away when they started posting their images (some are posted below)! Also, our shootout was so awesome, and in my opinion the best one during WPPI, we were featured on Ruffled!
The theme of the shoot was “A Walk in the Park”. In the words of Sugar and Fluff it was a “a moment in time as a mother and daughter step out to lunch at Central park in 1962. To contrast the barren desert and give our environment some context, we brought elements of the park through statement pieces and accents, like the black park bench and lamp, garden doll furniture, and a stone urn filled with ranunculus.” Although all the details were amazing my favorite part were the smoke bombs.
Unfortunetly it was super windy so they didn’t work how I pictured it but still, it was pretty cool. Before we bought some, I tried to make homemade ones. Turns out substituting ingredients when working with chemicals is a bad idea. If you want to see why, check out my first attempt at making a smoke bomb.
The talent that put the shoot together:
Design: Sugar and Fluff Design House
Flowers: Layers of Lovely
Make-Up: Piper at Allure Express
Styling: Ashley Taddei Styling
The sponsors who gave everyone goodies:
Kiss Wedding Books
Visual Supply
All the prettiness…
Since it was so windy, we had to hold the smoke bombs. Tarek is demostrating the safe way to hold a smoke bomb without inhaling all the smoke and setting yourself on fire. ![]()

Some images from the amazing talent at this shoot:
Linda came all the way from Norway!!
Naturlige Portretter

There were others but either I haven’t been able to find anything they posted or they haven’t posted anything.
