Last Tuesday I decided to take the day off from teaching skating and take the opportunity to go to Jessica Claire’s workshop. I know you are wondering why I would miss my adorable skating students lessons to go to a workshop… was it worth it? Yes, it was so worth it! Jessica Claire has been named one of the top 10 wedding photographers in the world by American Photo Magazine and she conveniently lives about 20 minutes from me. How could I not go?
20 photogrpahers met for a full day of learning, socializing and shooting. At the beginning of the workshop we all had to share something unique about ourselves. Here are a few that stuck out (one of them, literally).
Rachel Clare is due in 2 months!
Vera has a weird bendy finger thing she can do and Camile likes to wear coordinating, but not matching shoes.
I learned so much that I can apply to my business but I also learned some unexpected lessons. First, black crown molding looks amazing! I was listening for about 90% of the time but the other 10% I was designing my new home/studio (more details to come of this soon!) in my head and it had black crown molding with, well I can’t tell you the colors of the walls… you’ll have to wait until it’s done. =)
I don’t have any shots with the crown molding in the studio (too busy learning and “designing”). Well, I do have one but Jessica is eating a rice crispy treat and it’s probably not the most flattering photo, so, out of the kindness of my heart, I won’t post it. =) But, if you want to see some shots of the studio check out her blog.

Second, I learned that in Minnesota they say “pop” instead of soda and pronounce “bag” as “beg”. I met Laura, before the workshop, on Monday night for coffee and she is a super talented, super sweet photographer. I’m crossing my fingers that she will be able to second shoot with me for one of my November weddings!
And the third, unexpected lesson I learned is that a wedding in a park can be just a pretty as a wedding at a high end location. Check out this mock wedding set up by:
Event & Photo Stylist: Grey Likes Weddings
Floral Design: Lauryl Lane
Hair & Makeup: Vivian Tran: All Made Up
Wedding Stationary, Favors, and Paper Suite: MaeMae Paperie
Printing of paper products: Czar Press
Fabric Rosettes, shoe clips, and “just married” banner over cake: B. Poetic
Cake: Cheryl Stewart of Cake My Day
I mean seriously, look at these details! It’s all about the details!
The theme was a hot air ballon ride… so cute!

I love the one on the left. It reminds of Alice in Wonderland. it’s like a tea party in a secret garden.

These are my two favorite detail shots. I was trying to get something different than the norm.

Jessica getting her details shots, which are posted on her blog.

And a few getting ready and couple shots…
The dress was so pretty! If I was wearing it, I would have wanted to twirl.

Her make-up looked so beautiful!

Are they not totally gorgeous?

They have been married for four years but if I didn’t know it was a mock wedding I would have guessed they just got married that day… still so in love!

So happy on her “wedding day”. =)

Thank you Jessica for setting up this workshop! Not only are you an awesome photographer but you are also a great teacher!
