Rock Climbing Adventures at Stoney Point

Last month, my friend Amber told me she was going rock climbing. I thought it would be fun to shoot something different so I went. Little did I know I’d be hanging off of a rock. When we first got there I found a nice rock I could sit on that was about 20 feet up. It was perfect! I could get some really cool shots without actually climbing, which I’ve only done once at an indoor rock climbing gym. So here are a few shots from my very comfy rock…

This is Amber and a big rock. I don’t even understand how she is holding on to that rock!

This is Kenny, he kept me alive when I was hanging off the rock (keep scrolling down to see how)

This is Jeff, he’s an awesome photographer/ banjo player and one of the reasons I was hanging off the rock

Isn’t she pretty!

So Jeff thought it would be cool if I hung in the air and shot down. I thought he was crazy at first but I’ll almost do anything for a good shot! So, I was somehow hooked up to Kenny who lowered me down and then I was just hanging there free to move around. The scariest part for me, since I don’t climb, was leaning back to walk down the rock. I have my camera, shoot sac with lenses and I’m suppose to totally trust that this guy I met an hour earlier is going to be able to hold me while I lean back (kind of like he is leaning in the photo below) to “fall” off a rock. Yeah, not sure what I was thinking but it was fun and totally worth it! Photo taken by Jeff More

Jeff is sitting on the oh so comfy rock I was on earlier.

Yep, totally worth it! Photo by Jeff More

The results…

I seriously don’t understand how she is holding on to the rock

After the climb, safely on the ground. Photo by Jeff More

I guess all climbs end with a rock climbing, safety conscience guy playing the banjo!
